The Omen Project is a magic charm to awaken the dead, living shadows, wandering asleep, forgetful and lost. Deep Black a.k.a. No'One counted among them, being one who has 'fallen off the earth,' is sought by and seeks the beloved. Within this space we find the darkness of his being and the rough bearing of his actions upon the world ('Ensanglante' covered in blood). He is indeed a 'Mother Fucker' plumbing the deep. By these mirrors may he see his errant ways and remember the loss of his beloved and so return. Through these charms might we lift the spell that clouds his mind and coarsens his heart so the cock may crow to the end of this dark night.

the floor is pitched towards a far corner

the space is bisected by a scaffolding which approaches the ceiling while leaving room for someone atop

this scaffolding is covered by translucent tarp

a dry ice fog machine slowly emits fog which cascades down the scaffold

two video projectors scan the space with a video which has become digitally broken
(the video is partially blacked out so as to leave only patches of pixalated color break up

in a far corner a large and powerful amplifier sits with electronics and resonators for the production of noise

an amplifier atop the scaffolding emits digitally altered samplings from noise produced by the floor and scaffolding

the artist clamors about the scaffolding while playing the resonator

At The Crossroads, 'Your either with us, or your against us.'


An asphalt road is crossed by train tracks positioned off center of the room. On either side of the tracks is placed a set of crossing signs with lights flashing. Within the four quarters of the room are placed clumps of tall grass and dirt. On each of the four walls video loops are projected depicting a similar scene in nature. The walls which are met with the road have a video loop (with sound) with a road and a man standing still with a vacant stare periodically obscured by the passing of a train. In one corner a projection of the full moon would be placed.

a video begins abruptly pulsating, this is the only light to be used

non sync sound, in stereo, plays throughout

Deep Black struggles violently against his condition, cursing and screaming and spitting

Deep Black recites a monologue, 'Mother Fucker'

The Mysterious Deep Black #1, 2005
'mysterious room of the seven days'

 

The 'mysterious room of the seven days' is to be constructed within the space used, sound proofed, without portals, and covered in a black cloak obscuring any viewing of the room itself. Appropriate accoutrements for each day provided.

Sunday singing, Monday shirting, Tuesday fighting, Wednesday fucking, Thursday partying, Friday eating, Saturday destructing

Video surveillance of all actions carried out within the room on each day is held in secret, but watched by a security guard sitting at a desk in the corner. Each day is recorded and held in secret. Only seven copies are to be made.

Public viewing is strictly prohibited.

Voodoo and Omens, midnight readings and transmissions


After having fallen off the earth the Omen Project shall send word back from the ‘Mysterious Deep Black, as well as answer any questions from internet viewers sent via ‘instant messenger.’ This action may only take place after midnight and before sunrise. Questions are answered using the Omen Project mnemonic system of reading the distribution of ‘evidence, objects cast on the ground. Answers are then transmitted live from within the video set, while wearing the Deep Black suit.

The Omen Project is a Magic charm to awaken the dead, visceral and ecstatic.

Before you is the Mysterious Deep Black. It enters through the back door in dreams half forgotten. Seeping through the oily fog from under comfort pulled tight around shoulders. It does not rest but waits observant for falling stars, in backyards holding court, as lightening bugs and children play jest with the night. Only the haunted dreams of youth can break the folded silence tucked away from polite conversation, memory held in quiet abeyance.

As a child my grandmother and I each summer would watch for falling stars. Perched on picnic table I waited, and grandmother seated in lawn chair with fresh popcorn we waited, and counted, and summoned forth dreams from the darkness. This too is my memory long held at arms length. Nightmares of atomic war and ridge runners sweated out in summers heat. So I ran through the night and shook the bones free and ran through the trees, and ran through the stars, and ran through the mysterious deep black.

Omen readings


Within a darkened black room a simple table and two chairs are centered. Next to this is a stand with a live rooster. Deep Black sits in one chair while the participant takes the other. On the table is a candle and one decanter of wine and two glasses, and a box containing objects mined from the local area. Questions are answered using the Omen Project mnemonic system of reading the distribution of ‘evidence through objects hand picked from the box by the participant. The answers are given in a prose manner of intuitive story telling that interacts with the participant.
